Press TV quoted First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref on Tuesday saying Tehran will retain control and management of the Strait of Hormuz and that vessels using the waterway should pay for security services provided by Iran, the presidential office said. Aref said Iran has made major sacrifices to protect its rights in the strait and that without Iranian security services vessels could face risks including sea mines and environmental damage.

U.S. Vice President Vance said if Iran does not fulfill its commitments, the U.S. will revert to previous options.

Russia's Foreign Ministry said on its website on the evening of the 16th that, in response to Canadian sanctions against Russia, it has banned 103 Canadian nationals from entering the country. The ministry accused some Canadian politicians of harming Russian rights and interests and damaging bilateral ties, and said it respects the Canadian people but opposes the Canadian government's current hostile stance. The travel ban list includes several Canadian MPs and former Canadian ambassadors to Russia and Ukraine.
