The U.S. government on Wednesday granted SandboxAQ $500m to develop new chemicals and materials for domestic semiconductor manufacturing, including alternatives to PFAS. The funding is part of CHIPS Act research allocations directed by President Trump; the program previously committed $150m to new chip-making equipment and $2bn to quantum computing. SandboxAQ, backed by NVIDIA (NVDA.O), was valued at $5.75bn in April 2025 and has raised more than $1bn to date.
