A UN spokesperson said on the 12th Secretary-General António Guterres voiced
deep concern over a sharp escalation in the Gulf and the resumption of military
confrontation, urging the US and Iran to urgently resume talks to resolve
outstanding issues diplomatically. He said attacks must stop, called on all
parties to exercise maximum restraint and avoid actions that would further
escalate the situation, and urged immediate de-escalatory measures. Guterres
warned that renewed full-scale hostilities would be catastrophic for regional
populations, international peace and security and the global economy, and
reiterated the need to fully restore freedom of navigation through the Strait of
Hormuz.
