US Treasury Secretary Bessent said he will on the 24th publicly disclose details
of 'unprecedented' measures to economically isolate Iran. In an FT op‑ed he
described a coming 'D‑Day' financial offensive aimed at severing every economic
lifeline to Tehran until the regime is isolated. Bessent warned third countries
that provide financial support could face similar isolation and said the US will
employ its full enforcement toolkit, including secondary sanctions on foreign
states and firms that continue Iran business. The measures will focus on three
trade activities: purchasing Iranian oil, transfers/remittances to Iran and
ship‑to‑ship transfers of Iranian crude. He added a 'large‑scale' military
operation is not expected to be required.
