U.S. Secretary of State Rubio said on the 24th he approved formally revoking Syria’s designation as a state sponsor of terrorism. Rubio said the Syrian transitional government has taken significant counterterrorism steps and that delisting removes the final major barrier to private-sector investment, facilitating Syria’s economic recovery and reintegration into the global economy. The Syrian transitional government welcomed the decision. Rubio also announced removal of the Sham Liberation Army from the U.S. list of designated terrorist organizations.

The Electoral Affairs Commission published provisional recommendations on constituency boundaries and names for the 2027 Hong Kong District Council general election and opened a public consultation running to Sept. 24. The election is scheduled for year-end 2027. Under the Electoral Affairs Commission Ordinance, the EAC must review boundaries and names, issue provisional recommendations, conduct public consultation and submit a report to the Chief Executive.
