Kelly said Trump’s options are limited: deploy ground forces — which could cost thousands of American lives — withdraw entirely, or apply economic pressure while working to rebuild ties with European allies. He said US-EU relations have been weakened over the past 18 months and called the situation a crisis of Trump’s own making. Kelly added that bombing operations causing civilian Iranian deaths are “not a good idea” and that economic measures combined with alliance rebuilding are preferable to military escalation or a ground invasion.
