On Aug. 28 local time the Trump administration appealed a federal court ruling that had prevented its mail‑in voting rule from taking effect. U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani on Aug. 27 issued a 14‑day temporary restraining order suspending the U.S. Postal Service’s enforcement of the new mail‑in voting rules and set a Sept. 3 hearing to consider a longer injunction.

Fed chair Kevin Warsh said he is impressed by overall economic performance and that the economy appears to have strengthened, citing resilience of the real economy and Wall Street under stress. He added that, given current market rates and the Fed’s unchanged short-term policy rate since December, credit and loan markets show almost no sign of policy constraint — comments that could bolster the case for additional rate hikes if inflation persists. Warsh acknowledged pressure in housing and agriculture but said it is difficult to describe overall financial conditions as restrictive.
