On the 4th the U.S. State Department said it approved sales of military equipment to Saudi Arabia and Oman valued at about USD 5.75 bln and USD 188 mln, respectively. The Saudi package includes 5,004 500‑lb bombs, 5,000 2,000‑lb bombs and associated guidance kits, estimated at USD 5.0 bln, plus 60 engines for use in M1 Abrams main battle tanks, estimated at USD 750 mln. The State Department also approved F‑16 support services and related equipment for Oman. U.S. media report the sales still require congressional approval.

An external investigation report published Sept. 4 by Japanese electric motor maker Nidec found widespread falsification across 12 business units and subsidiaries. The committee of external lawyers identified 844 related violations; about 95% involved unauthorised changes to manufacturing processes, product designs or materials without customer consent. Other breaches included fabricated or altered test data and shipping nonconforming products as compliant. The probe followed a falsification scandal first exposed in May.
