Mohammed Basha, founder and chief analyst at Basha Report Risk Consulting, said political infighting and a fragmented military within Yemen’s internationally recognized government are obstructing operations against the Houthis. He warned that divided command-and-control and eight competing army factions make it impossible to defeat the Houthis, and that internal strife is the main factor enabling Houthi advances. Basha added tensions within the anti-Houthi coalition have persisted for decades, from the 1986 southern civil war through the 2011 Arab Spring and subsequent conflicts.

Qatar’s foreign ministry said the Qatari prime minister and foreign minister held a phone call with Kuwait’s foreign minister to discuss the latest regional situation and coordination on diplomatic efforts to ease tensions and bolster regional security and stability. Qatar confirmed support for diplomatic initiatives aimed at ensuring freedom of navigation and paving the way for a comprehensive agreement to achieve lasting regional peace.
