MOFCOM and seven other ministries issued an Action Plan to Promote Smart Home Consumption directing promotion of household service robots, health-monitoring devices and intelligent care products tailored for the elderly. The plan instructs firms to adopt age-friendly designs covering product dimensions, ease of operation, dialect recognition and safety, and to expand supply of age-adapted smart-home products and home-renovation services. It also calls for establishing certification for silver-age/elder-friendly smart-home products.

Nikko Securities expects the BOJ to raise its policy rate from 1.00% to 1.25% on Friday and to lift rates to 1.75% by June 2027. The broker said the BOJ may accelerate tightening to counter upside inflation risk. It flagged the Middle East conflict as a driver of higher oil prices, rising global yields and further yen weakness. If oil rises further and other central banks continue to tighten—heightening yen depreciation risk—Nikko said the BOJ could push rates toward 2.25%.
