BEIJING, Sept 20 — The World Public Science Literacy Organization, an international science body initiated with support from the China Association for Science and Technology, was officially unveiled at the opening of the 2026 World Conference on Promoting Public Science Literacy in Beijing. Registered in Beijing in June, the group leverages resources and international partnerships from the conference series and has 32 founding members from 21 countries across Asia, Europe, South America, Africa

In the early hours of Sept. 19 a sudden debris flow struck near the Shijia Gou tunnel by Zhilouhe village, Gesala township, Yanbian County, Panzhihua, Sichuan. The Sichuan provincial emergency management department mobilized Panzhihua city and Yanbian county emergency bureaus, dispatched a working group to the site to direct response, and deployed Wing Loong UAVs for communications restoration and aerial reconnaissance. Local forces are conducting search, rescue and relief operations.
