Japan Meteorological Agency said rainfall continued in Tokyo on the morning of the 29th, marking a 34th consecutive day of precipitation in the city—the longest streak since records began in 1886. Rain has persisted since Aug. 27 under the influence of an approaching typhoon and is expected to continue through Oct. 1.

China Galaxy Securities and Dacheng Fund launched a large-cap ETF tracking the HKEX–Malaysia Large-Cap Index (HKEXBML), which began trading on the Hong Kong Main Board today. It is the market’s first ETF to track the HKEXBML.

China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) said August steel exports were 10.16 million tonnes, up 0.3% MoM and 6.8% YoY; average export price $722.2/tonne, +0.9% MoM and +3.5% YoY. Jan–Aug cumulative exports totaled 75.15 million tonnes, down 3.0% YoY; average export price $705.9/tonne, +1.0% YoY. August imports were 0.434 million tonnes, down 2.5% MoM and 13.1% YoY; average import price $2,002.8/tonne, +2.6% MoM and +21.2% YoY. Jan–Aug cumulative imports were 3.574 million tonnes, down 10.5% YoY; average import price $1,841.1/tonne, +7.5% YoY.
