Mobility Global data show gasoline-only models accounted for 49% of global
new-car sales in 1H2026, the first time below 50% and down from 73% in 2021 (–24
percentage points). The overall new-vehicle market contracted about 5% in 1H;
gasoline-only sales declined at roughly twice that rate. Industry participants
attribute the accelerated shift to sharp fuel-price rises following the Middle
East conflict, prompting consumers toward lower running-cost models. Regionally,
China gasoline-car sales fell 26% YoY (largest drop), Europe fell 13% YoY.
Battery-electric vehicle (BEV) sales rose: Europe +32% YoY to 1.81 mln,
Southeast Asia +81% to 350k, Oceania doubled to 110k.
