Former US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen criticized President Trump’s treatment
of allies and endorsed countermeasures against protectionist US tariffs.
Responding to Canadian Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland, Yellen said she found
attempts to “monetize” US security commitments shocking and that she “fully
understand[s] why you feel betrayed, and why you’re so angry,” and added Canada
should take retaliatory measures against the tariff actions.
