The Pentagon has revised upward the number of US service members who died in Iran-related military operations in the Middle East to 21, the Washington Post reports, after adding two non-combat deaths to its Defense Casualty Analysis System. The newly included cases are Army National Guard Maj. Saufley Davious, 46, who died in Kuwait on March 6, and an unnamed Navy service member who died by suicide in September. The Post last month cited US officials saying fatalities exceeded the Pentagon’s published totals; Defense Secretary Hegseth at the time called that reporting “a complete lie.”

Iran foreign ministry spokesperson Baghaei posted on social media responding to Trump's earlier remark that "even if Iran destroyed Los Angeles or San Diego it would be a very small price", saying: "To frighten their population they fabricate an imagined aerial enemy to cover the real threat on the ground. The real danger is neither outside their borders nor in the skies over Los Angeles and San Diego. The real danger comes from a ruling group that imposes illegal wars on the world and causes global consequences. The US president even described the destruction of Los Angeles and San Diego as 'a very small price'. This is a classic case of fear politics: using a fictional threat to intimidate the public, portraying the destruction of one's own cities as an acceptable price, and diverting attention from the real danger."
