Retired US general Mark Kimmitt said Israeli forces have pushed deep into
southern Lebanon, reaching Beaufort Castle — the furthest Israeli penetration in
26 years — and may no longer be in a position to withdraw. Kimmitt said Tehran
is likely leveraging Hezbollah and the Lebanon front to divert attention from
its nuclear talks and to unsettle the US strategically, after previously seeking
leverage via the Strait of Hormuz.
