Samsung vice chairman Lee Jae‑yong said the company is in a "race against time" and has sped up plans to build semiconductor fabs in the Seoul metropolitan area. Gwangju (southwest South Korea) will be developed as a new memory manufacturing base; Cheonan and Onyang will be designated high‑bandwidth memory (HBM) packaging centers. Samsung also plans to deploy humanoid robots at its Gumi (North Gyeongsang) fab and increase related investment.
