Russian media say firms have developed a drone-identification system called Red
Button that can compel civilian drones to land in emergencies. Jointly built by
a GLONASS company and Element, the module can be embedded in civilian drones and
uses Russia’s GLONASS positioning to track and identify aircraft even without
cellular service. Regulators can send encrypted commands to force a landing;
developers say the command link is encrypted to prevent unauthorized tampering.
The system completed an initial test and is planned for rollout to unmanned
vehicles, notably autonomous trucks.
