Hassan Kashkavi, a member of Iran’s parliament National Security and Foreign
Policy Committee, told state Press TV on Sunday that Iran prefers to manage the
Strait of Hormuz through cooperation with regional states, particularly Oman,
and that "the clear official position is that future management of the Strait
will be arranged by Iran." A former long‑time Foreign Ministry diplomat, he said
UNCLOS permits coastal states in wartime to take measures to ensure safety
maritime passage and protect their maritime security, and described recent US
strikes linked to Hormuz disputes as violations of the UN Charter and
infringements of national sovereignty.
