At a regular briefing, the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office urged the European Parliament to immediately correct what it called mistaken statements and actions on Taiwan after the EP adopted an East Asia geopolitics report that "opposes any coercive unilateral attempt to change the status quo." Taiwan's foreign affairs office had thanked the report. Spokesperson Zhu Fenglian reaffirmed that there is only one China and Taiwan is part of China, called the EP report crude interference in China’s internal affairs and said Beijing firmly opposes it. The Taiwan Affairs Office urged the EP to handle Taiwan issues prudently and warned that the Democratic Progressive Party’s efforts to enlist foreign backing for moves toward independence are doomed to fail.
