RSM UK analyst Thomas Pugh said June inflation fell to 2.6%, effectively ruling out a Bank of England rate hike next week. The drop was driven mainly by declines in food, fuel and energy prices, while services inflation — the key gauge of domestic price pressures — was in line with expectations. He expects Bank Rate to remain on hold and sees no rate cuts before 2027.

Monex Europe said this week’s inflation and jobs data left Bank of England rate expectations largely unchanged, so UK politics should remain the focus for sterling traders. The Bank is likely to hold rates on July 30. With new PM Burnham planning measures to ease living costs and seeking flexibility within fiscal rules, Monex retains a mild downside bias on sterling until budget details are released.
