The Baltic Dry Index (BDI) rose for a second day, up 10 pts (0.37%) to 2,725, led by stronger cape rates. The Baltic Cape Index (BCI) gained 84 pts (2%) to 4,198, its highest since July 16; Cape daily earnings rose $764 to $34,569. The Panamax Index (BPI) fell 56 pts (2.6%) to 2,064, a one-month low; Panamax daily Earnings dropped $509 to $18,574. The Supramax Index (BSI) slipped 13 pts (0.8%) to 1,702, its lowest since July 9. The Handysize Index (BHSI) rose 1 pt to 906.

According to CBS, citing shipping industry sources, despite repeated US assertions that the Strait of Hormuz remains open to commercial vessels, large international merchant ships have virtually ceased transit. US Central Command stated that Iran has launched over 30 attacks on commercial vessels since the start of the current conflict. Data from the Joint Maritime Information Center in Bahrain shows that commercial vessel traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has fallen to a near three-week low, with only three merchant ships tracked through the strait on Tuesday. Marisks CEO Maniatis stated that the US can currently only provide limited air cover for merchant ships and cannot guarantee safe passage, leading ship owners and crews to generally avoid the risk of crossing the strait.
