On July 25, Austria’s minister for Europe, integration and families, Claudia
Bauer, said she opposes a fast-track for Ukraine’s EU accession, arguing
membership must follow normal procedures. Bauer warned Ukraine’s agricultural
structure differs markedly from current EU members and that accession would have
significant effects on the bloc, so the decision requires careful weighing. She
said all applicants must follow the same rules and reach access conditions
through reform and demonstrable performance.
