Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport launched a blue emergency response on the
afternoon of Aug 1 after forecasts of moderate-to-heavy showers with
thunderstorms. As of 15:35, 42 passenger departures were delayed more than one
hour and had not departed. The airport said it issued weather warnings to
on-site units, activated contingency plans, added check-in, security and baggage
counters or lanes, and will coordinate with air traffic control and carriers to
accelerate flight releases once conditions improve.
