China Merchants Securities, citing Microsoft and SK Hynix results, concludes the AI sector still faces genuine supply constraints and shows no clear signs of broad overcapacity. Large tech firms are increasing AI infrastructure investment and customer follow-on orders are rising; earnings do not yet provide solid evidence of an AI compute glut. Microsoft compute utilization and SK Hynix order flows indicate the current imbalance is shortages of high-performance compute, advanced storage and data-center support capacity rather than widespread equipment idling. Near-term investment opportunities are likely to center on segments that alleviate AI compute bottlenecks.

U.S. President Trump told reporters at the White House on Aug. 3 that talks with Iran is underway and will proceed in two phases: first reopening the Strait of Hormuz, then denuclearization. He said the strait could be reopened as soon as tomorrow and that the talks were at Iran’s request with support from Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar. Trump said Washington had been prepared to launch a major strike until Iran and Gulf states called to seek talks, reiterated that Iran must not possess nuclear weapons, and said he would not allow Iran to charge vessels for passage through the Strait of Hormuz, calling it "Iran's last chance."
