The Information reports NVIDIA (NVDA.O) is considering reducing memory capacity
on its next‑generation Rubin Ultra GPUs to address a shortage of high‑bandwidth
memory (HBM) chips. Insiders said NVIDIA has tested at least three Rubin Ultra
variants in recent weeks, with some carrying less memory than originally
announced. The move is driven in part by the risk of insufficient supply of
high‑end memory to meet the original design. Reduced memory would hurt chip
performance, though NVIDIA may offset some loss through other design changes. AI
firms running large models on lower‑memory Rubin Ultra chips would need to
deploy more GPUs to achieve the same workloads.
