The World Health Organization said transmission began earlier than publicly reported: genomic sequencing suggests the virus may have been circulating silently as early as February, months before the government’s May 15 announcement. WHO warned the outbreak is accelerating and called for urgent strengthening of control measures. Authorities have shifted from traditional contact tracing to door‑to‑door, community‑wide screening for hidden cases and said expanded screening could cause the outbreak to worsen in the coming weeks.
