According to the Financial Times, Chery Automobile will establish a passenger vehicle R&D center in the UK to further expand its business presence in the British market. Gary Lan, CEO of Chery International UK, said on Wednesday that the R&D center is "the next step in our long-term development plan in the UK. Our ambition has never been just to bring cars to the UK." Chery stated that the R&D center will be operational in late autumn this year. Chery has become one of the fastest-growing Chinese automakers in the UK. In July, Chery's global sales reached approximately 280,000 vehicles, of which exports totaled approximately 202,000, representing a year-on-year increase of 70%. This makes Chery the first Chinese automaker to surpass 200,000 vehicles in monthly exports.
