Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney urged provincial premiers in a Wednesday
call to restore US wine and spirits sales in local stores after a US-Canada
trade agreement is finalized, Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston said. Provinces
set alcohol retail rules; most pulled US alcohol last year in retaliation for US
tariffs, sharply reducing US wine and distilled spirits exports. Major provinces
including Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia still maintain bans. It is
unclear whether premiers will comply; if they refuse, the preliminary trade deal
announced by Trump could be jeopardized. The White House has said ending the
bans is a core pillar of any US-Canada agreement.
