Iron ore futures rose on Wednesday as Typhoon Zitan disrupted shipping routes in the South China Sea, affecting iron ore supply and pushing up freight rates. The benchmark September iron ore futures contract on the Singapore Exchange rose 1.04% to $98.15 per tonne. Rising freight rates typically support seaborne iron ore prices. However, analysts said that widening losses at steel mills leading to slower production, coupled with relatively high steel mill inventories, limited the price increase.
