Al Jazeera reported Washington has contacted 16 countries neighboring Iran
seeking their participation in sanctions. Eight countries said close economic
ties and intertwined interests make it difficult to severe economic relations
with Iran; the other eight said they are still assessing the request — responses
may amount to a tacit refusal.
