Bernstein says Meituan’s Q2 results beat expectations: the group returned to
profitability after food-delivery competition and new-business losses were
smaller than expected. Bernstein remains cautious — Meituan did not match
ByteDance-style dine-in subsidies in Q2 and ceded some share, then began chasing
share again in Q3. Macroeconomic and competitive pressure constrain revenue
growth, and increasing overlap between food delivery, e-commerce and instant
retail could bring recurring cycles of competition. Bernstein maintains a
market-perform rating and HK$85 target, unchanged since a downgrade in June last
year.
