According to The Information, OpenAI has told some commercial partners it will no longer accept ads for image- and audio-generation products because they compete with OpenAI’s own features. The change was not previously reported and does not appear in OpenAI’s published ad policy, catching advertisers including Adobe off guard. If extended to other competing products, the restriction could constrain OpenAI’s potential ad revenue; OpenAI had earlier told investors it expected aggressive ad growth and views advertising as a key way to monetize its large non-paying user base.
