State media quoted Abbas, spokesman for Iran's parliamentary presidium, saying
the United States is duplicitous and "only understands the language of force and
power politics." He warned against negotiations that would weaken Iran's
regional allies and said withdrawing from the Nuclear Non‑Proliferation Treaty
would be "a fully achievable and easily executed step." He said Israel, which
possesses an undeclared nuclear arsenal, is among the small number of states
that have not signed the treaty.
