Over the past few decades, the United States has established numerous bases in the Persian Gulf states and in eastern and western Iran to maintain its dominance in the region. However, these bases have all been attacked by Iranian missiles and drones, and most have been destroyed and rendered inoperable. The United States has been forced to relocate its troops and equipment to more distant bases, such as the Al-Azraq base in Jordan and other bases near the Israeli border, but security has also been compromised there. This is a very significant setback.
