On Saturday 17 interior ministers from EU member states and the UK met to
discuss tightening border controls, shortening emergency response times and
introducing fast-track return procedures for some migrants. The talks follow an
EU migration and asylum pact implemented in June. Germany’s interior minister
Dobrindt called for a new European migration-crisis response mechanism, urging
rules to define border emergency situations and enable rapid returns after
incidents such as the mass arrivals in Ceuta from neighboring Morocco.
