British investigators are probing whether a suspected plot to attack RAF
Fairford, a base hosting US forces and used for Middle East missions, was
directed by Iran or an Islamist group. Five British men in their early 20s from
London were arrested hundreds of yards from the western England base; police
have not established a motive but security officials say US B-1 bombers may have
been the target. Officials cautioned it is too early to determine Tehran’s
involvement; Iran earlier warned Britain against permitting US strikes from UK
bases.
