Speaking outside Tesla's Austin Gigafactory, Musk said his companies' expertise
in building custom equipment makes it likely they will "find a better way than
anyone to manufacture chips." He said he currently "doesn't know how to make
microchips, but we'll figure it out," and cautioned it could "take years."
Speaking via livestream at an X Takeover event, Musk said he saw little custom
equipment at rival facilities and that his firms' experience building such tools
could enable process improvements, calling advanced chipmaking "one of the
hardest things in the world."
