Iran-backed Houthi forces launched missile and drone strikes on multiple Saudi cities, including Riyadh, and struck ARAMCO’s eastern headquarters campus in Dhahran, causing a limited fire but no casualties, Saudi authorities said. The Saudi-led coalition said it intercepted multiple incoming missiles targeting Kharj, southern provinces, Dhahran and Haradh; some intercept fragments fell into a Dhahran residential area. At least 18 people have been killed and hundreds wounded in clashes across Saudi Arabia over the past week. Separately, Iran has intensified attacks on vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz, posing renewed risk to the recovery of global oil supply. The Saudi cabinet warned the Houthis would face consequences for continued strikes on airports, civilians facilities and economic targets.

Gallup’s annual poll on government performance finds 51% of US adults say the Democratic Party would better maintain the nation’s prosperity versus 37% for the Republican Party — the Democrats’ largest lead on this economic question since 2007 and their first clear advantage since 2012. Several polls this year show the economy is voters’ top concern; economic issues were a key factor in Trump’s 2024 victory. The poll links recent spikes in grocery and gasoline prices to Trump’s tariff policies and the US‑Iran conflict. Candidates from both parties have pledged measures to ease household economic pressures.
