AMG, the performance arm of Mercedes‑Benz Group, has launched its first fully in‑house electric SUV, the AMG GT SUV. The entry model is priced at €113,050 (~$127,060) and goes on sale next Tuesday; two higher‑spec versions are scheduled for next spring. AMG markets the car as a performance rival to Porsche’s electric Cayenne launched last November, citing three axial‑flux motors and an 800V battery system with peak output up to 1,169 hp. Range is quoted up to 668 km (415 miles) for the base model and up to 700 km (435 miles) for the top spec; the top variant does 0–100 km/h in 2.5 seconds. The vehicle targets driving‑performance buyers and will compete with Jaguar Land Rover’s forthcoming electric Range Rover and Bentley’s recent electric SUV from The Volkswagen Group.
