CSIS expert Mark Cancian says U.S. forces expended Patriot interceptors in
roughly seven months of fighting with Iran equivalent to about 19 years of prior
procurement. CSIS estimates the U.S. held about 2,200–2,330 new Patriot
interceptors pre-conflict and used roughly 1,060–1,500, leaving around one-third
of the pre-conflict stock. Pre-conflict U.S. procurement averaged about 225
interceptors a year; Lockheed Martin currently produces roughly 600–650 a year
for the U.S. and allies. CSIS projects at least three years will be required to
restore pre-conflict inventories and warns of a potentially vulnerable window if
Another major conflict occurs during replenishment.
