CNBC, citing a person familiar, said Kyiv is seeking alternatives after SpaceX
limited Starlink and Starshield use in Ukraine, reportedly causing high‑speed
drones to lose links and crash. The Ukrainian defense ministry said it has
signed a letter of intent with Finland’s Nokia and satellite maker ICEYE to
jointly develop new defense and satellite communications capabilities. President
ZELENSKIY said, “Modern war has shown reliable communications are a matter of
national security. We must rely on capabilities we can control." He also
announced a partnership with Norway to co‑develop air‑defense and communications
systems as potential alternatives to Starshield.
