On Tuesday Defence Minister Rajnath Singh approved transfer of missile
technologies developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation
(DRDO) to Indian defence firms to enable domestic production of conventional
missile systems. The move, part of New Delhi's Aatmanirbharta (self‑reliance)
drive, aims to strengthen defence manufacturing, reduce dependence on foreign
suppliers and expand defence exports while enhancing deterrence against
Pakistan; analysts warn the plan faces near‑term limits because missile supply
chains still rely on imported components and private firms' ability to
independently produce complex weapons is unproven.
