The gain, an early indicator of future output, leaves the rig count up 26 rigs year‑on‑year (+5%). Oil rigs added seven to 440, the highest since June 2025; gas rigs rose three to 125; other rigs held at eight.

The stoppage, in response to an ongoing Safe union strike by several hundred members, is expected to disrupt drilling on the Norwegian continental shelf and affect some production. Companies cited as impacted include Schlumberger, Halliburton, Subsea 7, DOF Subsea, Weatherford, DeepOcean and Baker Hughes.
