U.S. reports on July 31 say July is on track to be the hottest month on record
in the contiguous United States. A new heat dome is forming in the U.S. West and
high temperatures are expected to persist. As of July 29, July's average
temperature was about 1.4°C above the 1991–2020 baseline; final July data will
be released in early August, and media predict it could exceed the July 2012
record.
