Lula rejected U.S. allegations of unfair trade practices that prompted Washington to impose 25% tariffs on many Brazilian products, telling Trump in a call lasting just over an hour that the accusations were "baseless." Brazil said Trump proposed government-level meetings as soon as possible. It was the first call between the two leaders since relations soured again in May.
