Germany's corporate bankruptcy filings rose to a 13-year high in 1H 2026, the Federal Statistical Office said, with local courts receiving 12,812 filings from January to June, up 6.7% YoY. Transport and storage companies were hit hardest. The last comparable level was in 2013 (13,253 filings). Local courts estimate creditor claims tied to these cases at about €18.5bn (~$21.5bn), down from €28.2bn a year earlier when larger firms were affected. Consumer bankruptcies increased 2.4% to 38,932.

According to statistics from JPMorgan Chase's Sustainable Investment Research Team, as of July 2026, 15 U.S. states have proposed measures to suspend or restrict the construction of new data centers. However, the progress of a comprehensive halt to construction has been limited: proposals from six states have failed, Maine's plan was rejected, only New York has implemented a one-year suspension of approvals through an executive order, and the remaining proposals are still in the proposal or review stage. JPMorgan Chase points out that most data center projects are still progressing, and states may subsequently adopt more methods such as independent electricity pricing, long-term electricity commitments, infrastructure cost sharing, and water disclosure to manage new load.
