A Deloitte study released Wednesday revealed that one in six employees in the UK pays for AI tools to assist with their work, with total annual spending approaching £1 billion (approximately $1.4 billion). The report found that two-thirds of employees have tried using multiple AI tools, and nearly a quarter use them daily at work. The findings indicate that employees are adopting AI faster than employers are providing the tools. Deloitte partner Paul Lee pointed out that generative AI has rapidly integrated into daily work and life. However, for employees, its role remains relatively basic, rather than supporting more complex tasks. Companies that will gain the most from AI will move beyond simply providing tools and instead focus on guiding employees to use them with appropriate safeguards and clear objectives.
