Recent market fragility stems primarily from high overall positioning and crowded internal trading. Inflows into the US tech sector over the past three months have been near multi-year highs, and the "long Nasdaq 100, short Russell 2000" strategy has once again become extreme. AI core income-themed positions remain at the 94th percentile of the 12-month cycle, and have reached the 99th percentile in the long term. The long/short ratio for semiconductors is approximately 3:1, while software is around 1:1. In contrast, utilities remain significantly underweighted by hedge funds, with positions near 10-year lows. Therefore, the market is poised for a style rotation. A reversal in tech or AI trading could lead funds to reduce overall risk exposure and rotate towards underweighted sectors.
